%X Due to the approval of the new forest code and the consequent proposed changes to adapt of the properties to permanent preservation areas (APP), this work aimed to evaluate the changes in the Brazilian Forest Code. A comparative analysis of the two versions of the Law (No. 4.771 / 65 - former forest code and No. 12,651 / 12 - new forest code), for small farms in State of Paraná was performed for seven farms that have areas ranging from 2,41 and 25.6 hectares. It is calculated their individual rural modules in relation to taxable modules for each municipality of origin. After, geoprocessing tools were applied to survey the land use cover. For this processing, ie, land use study and the verification of the forest code applications, the ArcGIS platform was used, as well as Landsat 8 satellite images with a spatial resolution of 30 meters. Then, the legal conditions for APP, in each property, for each of the versions of the aforementioned laws. Thus, the APP in rivers and springs were delimited. In addition, it was evaluated the changes in the properties, in terms of APP, due to the implementation of the new forest code. Through the analysis, one can see that the new forest code provided a decrease in APPs, on average, 93,51%. It was noticed that the property that have less lost in APP, had decrease of 89.89% and that one with the largest reduction was 98.99% and it provided greater flexibility of use due to its features. It can observe also that, on average, over the areas, there was an increase in area of direct use of 36.65%, without the necessity of licensing, or authorization to remove the vegetation for example, ranging from 7.19% and 89.89%. It concluded that the new forest code provided flexible approach for small farms in terms of areas for production, significantly reducing the APP. This fact must be treated with concern about the environment preservation.
